Organised by SecEd & Headteacher Update, the popular bi-annual event includes 12 CPD certified, school-led keynotes and seminars – all of which will offer practical strategies that can be adapted and adopted for your school’s unique circumstances.
Split into two days, we will bring together senior leaders, Pupil Premium leads, teachers and other experts to help you discover and debate deliverable, evidence-based and practical interventions and strategies for raising attainment, overcoming key barriers to learning and achievement, and narrow the gap for disadvantaged pupils.
Day 1 will see cross-phase keynotes and seminars for all delegates to attend, and day 2 will be split into two streams, so you can attend either the primary or secondary sessions which will all be focused on in-school practice, case studies, specific initiatives and other innovations.
Themes include Ofsted & the Pupil Premium, inspection under the new Education Inspection Framework (EIF), high leverage teaching, study skills, parental engagement, Pupil Premium culture, high expectations, SEND & EHCPs, outdoor learning, cultural capital, common wellbeing and pastoral challenges, identifying barriers to learning, cross-phase working, transition, pastoral support and more.
It has been almost nine years since the Pupil Premium was introduced and as such we have invited key speakers Professor Becky Francis and Mark Rowlands to deliver our keynote speeches.
Our opening keynote will take us from theory and research to practice as the National Education Trust’s Marc Rowland – author of A Practical Guide to the Pupil Premium – will discuss the lessons he has learned from his work with schools and others across England. This will include practical insights and reflections on whole-school strategies and classroom-level practice, including from his recent work to create a Pupil Premium toolkit for schools in Essex and his work with schools in the Oldham and Derby Opportunity Areas to identify good practice.
Prof Becky Francis is the incoming CEO of the Education Endowment Foundation and has spent her recent career immersed in the research evidence that schools need to guide effective Pupil Premium spending. This second keynote will consider what we have learnt in these past nine years about what works with our most disadvantaged pupils and will look at what the evidence-base tells us about what works and what doesn’t, in terms of value for money and achieving maximum pupil progress.
